With the onset of global warming wind speeds are increasing and the traditional belief that fixing a fence was a one off job is now being realized that due to such high winds fence panels are ever more regularly needing to be replaced.
Global warming may be a myth, but what is a fact is the increasing wind speeds that are creating a problem and leaving us with damaged fences requiring repair. Having been a fence erector in Nottingham for more than 30 years, I have noticed a gradual shift from the use of traditional 3inch wooden posts, to a 4inch pre-formed concrete slotted post.
These posts seem to handle the ever changing British weather and once installed should last a life time. Obviously these post will not be damaged or rot. It is important to remember that the pre-formed gravel board that sits at the bottom firmly anchored between the 2posts is not purely decorative and should always be installed its primary function is to keep your new fence panel up and off the ground keeping it dry.
Also the share weight of the gravel board acts as an extra anchor and puts the majority of the weight of the fencing at the bottom making it considerably stronger. It is worth noting that all fencing to be erected to a height over 5feet benefits greatly from having 2gravel boards at its base, this will make for a far more attractive looking fence and also will reduce the size of the fencing panel to be inserted from a 5ft panel, to a 4ft panel. This will make routine maintenance such as creosoting a much easier job, having to paint a number of 4ft panels as opposed to a number of 5ft panels. PG Slot
Also the larger the panel installed the more liable the panel will be to flex over its length, a 4ft panel being far more sturdy. But by far the best reason I can think of for installing new concrete slotted posts is that in the event that the fencing does suffer from severe storms and bad weather it is simply a matter of ordering a new panel and sliding it straight into the vacant space which can be done successfully by anyone, a much easier and cheaper job than employing a trades man to carry out this work.
Fencing your borders and boundaries is one of those jobs you should never leave to mr odd job man. You should always call the professionals when you require a Professional Quality finish.
A casino in Pennsylvania wanted to reward some of their best players. They wanted to reward 1,000 loyal casino goers with free slot machine credits. For some strange reason the promotion got out of control when the 1,000 names soon turned into 55,000 people! If every single person takes the casino up on its offer the casino could be out a lot of money! The amount would be around thirty million dollars.
The executives at the casino decided early on in the week to honor part of the offer. The staff made phone call after phone call to its loyal gamblers. Many of the customers were irate with the thought of revoking their playing privileges. The original plan was for the gamblers to have one hundred dollars in free slot play each week of December plus they could get a buffet dinner. In an attempt to try to make it right the casino is offering one hundred dollars in credits for each customer and only two buffet dinners. They must redeem them by Christmas, however.
It’s still a mystery on how the mix up occurred. One spokesman for the un-named casino says the problem lies with the direct mailing company but he refused to give a name of the company. Many of the customers are refusing to take the new deal, stating a deal is a deal. One has to wonder what would happen if all of the customers insisted on the mail offer. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board is now involved and they have turned it over to investigators to see if there were any regulatory violations.
A spokesman for the Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board said it referred the matter to its investigators to determine whether there were any regulatory violations. Now the question is how would you respond if you were one of the 55,000 people to get the free playing credits? Would you go for the new deal or would you demand on the original mailing? It’s a curious situation, no doubt. It will be interesting to see on what comes of it.
